FDI plays a major role in growth and sustainable development, increasing the productive capacity of the economy, stimulating job creation and revenue growth. However, the international investment environment of recent years has been profoundly altered by the current crises.
This article looks at how the various dimensions of fragility and the current crises, notably the Covid-19 pandemic, the rising costs of adapting to climate change and the stagflation engendered by the war in Ukraine, are affecting investment worldwide, and presents public policy considerations that could help remove the obstacles to attracting and retaining FDI. It also analyzes the main determinants of fragility and their complex relationship with FDI.
