The general objective of this research is to identify the impact of social media on the learning of adolescents in secondary schools in the city of Mwene-Ditu, Lomami Province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. To achieve this objective, we administered a questionnaire to a sample of 384 participants selected through stratified random sampling from an infinite population of young adolescents across all three municipalities of Mwene-Ditu city. The results obtained in the field show that social media has a negative impact on the learning of adolescents in secondary schools in Mwene-Ditu, as it contributes to distraction, moral degradation, juvenile delinquency, social isolation, academic failure, and grade repetition. Therefore, we found that our hypotheses, as stated, were confirmed. Thus, it can be concluded that the study enabled us to describe the impact of social media on the learning of adolescents in Mwene-Ditu, identify the major effects, and propose appropriate solutions to encourage young people to use ICT responsibly. However, in the digital age, we believe it is essential to intensify studies on new technologies from multiple perspectives and at different levels, taking into account the interdependent relationship between these technologies and today’s world.
