Abstract

The supervision of doctoral theses refers to the implementation of a set of conditions that contribute to the success of studies and the development of intellectual, scientific and professional autonomy. However, inadequate, insufficient, negligent or unsatisfactory supervision may increase stress, demotivation, intellectual isolation of the doctoral student and possibly lengthen the duration of their studies or lead to drop-out. This article highlights the factors that impact the quality of doctoral student supervision at ASUZ. To achieve this, a survey was carried out between 18 November and 7 January 2022 among doctoral students and PhDs from the DSSSH and DSSTE doctoral schools of the ASUZ to find out about their research conditions. Our sample consisted of 93 respondents and the results were obtained using Multiple Component Analysis. This shows that being male, being older, being satisfied with the research conditions and being part of a research team positively influence the quality of supervision.
