To assess the institutional environment and its impact on economic performance, it is essential to collect data and information that describe and analyze the different variables of this environment. The importance of this assessment in detecting institutional deficiencies and in improving institutional factors requires a good knowledge of the methods used in this context.
This paper highlights the main empirical methods used for the assessment of the institutional environment, emphasizing their advantages and disadvantages.
